Obituary of Joe L. Johnson

Joe L. Johnson was born on March 20, 1938 in Andrews, South Carolina, he was a member of the rhythm and blues band Soul Brothers Six who performed at the iconic Apollo Theater in Harlem, New York. The group recorded three albums while he was a member.

Among his favorite pasttimes, Joe enjoyed playing the guitar, watching football, baseball and western movies. His favorite sports teams were the Buffalo Bills and the New York Mets. He also loved to sing.

Joe retired from Rochester Regional Transit after 34 years of service as a bus driver. What he loved most about his job was meeting and talking with the passengers while riding on his bus.

If you knew Joe, you knew he was a very religious man. He loved the Lord and would always have a prayer for anyone that needed it. Joe was known for carrying a miniature bible and peppermint candy in his pocket. The big smile on his face would light up any room.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents: Simon and Cora Johnson; sisters: Clarissa Johnson, Mamie Johnson Gamble, Ester Johnson Black; brothers: Robert Johnson, John S. Johnson, Fred Johnson and Marion Johnson, Left to cherish his memory his wife Eva JOhnson, children: Tavara Johnson, Michelle Lewis, Cail Lewis, Tamara Johnson, Tory Johnson, Donald Mack, Johnnie Gamble and Chad Lewis; sister Larine Johnson Nesmith; brother Booker T Johnson; special niece Clorretha Johnson (Verdi) along with a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends and family.
