Geneva Russell Dodds was born in Rutherford, Alabama on September 2, 1932 to the late Israel John and Mary Russell Shepard. She was one of seven children. She graduated from Park City School in Chattanooga, Tenessee in 1948 and married Mr. John Dodds in the summer following her graduation. She worked as a domestic for Mr. E. Denman of Atlanta, Georgia from 1949 to 1956. She moved to Rochester in 1957 and began working at the Manhattan Restaurant on East Ave. In 1959 Geneva was hired by the State of New York as a Mental Health Therapy Aide at the Rochester Psychiatric Center. She retired in 1989 after 30 years of dedicated service. Geneva always did things her way. She was strong willed, humorous, stern and meant business. She was also a fantastic cook best known for her peach cobbler and duck dressing. Geneva Dodds departed this life on November 24, 2017. She is survived by her sister, Lelar B. Carda; nieces and nephews, Tim Shepard, Marcia Ann, Michael, David Lee, James, Catherine, Laverne, Rosemary, Valerie, Isaac, Shirley, Junior, Robert Lee and Julie Mae; goddaughters, Linda Webb-Milton and Juanita Tyrone.
