To all who have submitted entries to Nicolle and our entire family, I thank you for your kind words during what has proven to be one of the MOST difficult times in our lives. (Hey Michelle and Melissa...)
I know that a lot of you are wondering WHAT could have happened in a 36-year "young" life that would take Nikki from us SO soon.
In July 2005, Nikki discovered a lump in her left breast. She underwent the first of several surgeries to remove the mass and lymph nodes in August.
After several bouts of chemo and radiation, it was later discovered that the cancer had matastisized to the brain, bypassing ALL other organs.
On April 20, 2006, she was told that she had 4-6 months to live, but with treatment she would have 6-months to a year.
She underwent the additional radiation and we began making travel/wedding plans.
Upon returning on June 23rd, the doctor told us that the lesions had spread through out the brain membrane and we had 2-weeks to 2-months.
The ENTIRE time Nikki was kept home surrounded by her family, fiance, and cats. She NEVER complained, was as FIESTY as ever, and when she left us, she did so quietly in her sleep, with her family at her bedside.
