Obituary of Edith Veiro
Please share a memory of Edith to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Edith was born in Orange Valley St. Ann, Jamaica, West Indies, on April 29th, 1919. She fell in love with, and married Peter Veiro on August 24th, 1940. Peter went on to be with the Lord in 2002.
Edith's dream was to be a School Teacher and although this was not realized in the traditional school setting, she was noted for teaching bible stories and songs to the children in every neighborhood in which she resided.
Edith's greatest delight was imparting the love and knowledge of Jesus Christ to whomever she came in contact with. The fact that she was in a nursing home for the past few years did not deter her from sharing her passion for Christ. The nurse's aides at the facility all knew that if they were going to get "Grandma" ready for bed, they had to participate in the nightly ritual of reading the Bible and praying. Sometimes she prayed so long they slipped out of the room, but Edith learned after awhile that if she held onto their hand, they couldn't escape, so she did just that!
Edith was a member of Phillipo Baptist Church in Jamaica. She was passionate about singing and so she was involved in various choirs in church and in other community organizations. Another passion was in ministering to the sick and shut-ins. She fulfilled this desire as a member of the Women's Missionary Organization within her church. Her compassions for the sick and shut-ins was not limited to just those in her church, or her friends, she was even known to go into her enemies' homes and take care of them also.
Edith and Peter migrated to the United States in 1987. She soon got involved in Covenant Community Church, Pastor Paul Garlington. Later she became a member of Church of Love Faith Center, Bishop Gregory Parris and was faithful there until the day of her passing.
Mrs. Edith Veiro's memories will forever be cherished by her family and friends. She is survived by her daughters: Lurline, Isoda, Lorna, Barbara, and Loretta of Rochester, NY; son: Jarrell (Winston) of Rochester, NY; her sister Uda Wisdom of Jamaica, WI; 30 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives.
