Obituary of Sylvia A. Garrett
Please share a memory of Sylvia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Sylvia Ann Garrett entered this world on March 30, 1951 in Rochester, New York. She was the last of nine children born to the union of the late Paul Robert Garrett and Helen Ruth (Maines) Garrett.
Sylvia, affectionately known by many as "Peetie" attended elementary school at Samuel G. Andrews School No. 9 (now known as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. School No. 9) and high school at Benjamin Franklin High School in Rochester, New York. Sylvia worked at Marshalls Department Store in Pittsford, New York for many years until her health began to fail.
Sylvia had an outgoing personality and in her younger years enjoyed going to parties and being with friends. She also had passion for being neat and loved to starch and iron her clothes, making sure that everything looked just right. Sylvia also enjoyed watching television and taking a stroll down memory lane while listening to the "oldies". Besides these and other interest, Sylvia appreciated visiting with other residents of the apartment complex where she lived.
Sylvia had a great sense of humor and would always make you laugh. She was feisty but also had a caring spirit. Sylvia often displayed her kindness towards others by her generosity. She may not have had much but if you were in need she willingly gave no matter the sacrifice.
On Friday, January 2, 2015 Sylvia Ann Garrett answered the Lord's call to come home. Predeceased by her parents, sisters; Barbara, Pauline, Mary Lou, Olive, Olivia and brother Donald, she leaves to treasure her memory her last sibling; Edward Smith of Richmond, VA; special nephews; James McCathan and Marcus Smalls of Rochester, New York, and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Sylvia will truly be missed but always remembered by everyone that knew her.
