Obituary of Emanuel Smart

Emanuel T. Smart, Jr. was born September 5, 1930 in Burlington, NC. The son of the late Emanuel and Mary Smart. He resided his young childhood years in Burlington and Charlotte, NC. before moving to New Haven, CT. He attended and graduated from Hillhouse High School where he was affectionately called "Doc". Upon graduation he enlisted in the Air Force where he excelled in electronics.
After completing his military service he returned to New Haven and worked briefly for Winchester Repeating Arms. Later he moved to Rochester, NY where he worked as a manufacturing development engineer of two electronics companies, General Dynamics and the General Railway Signal Company. During this period he also opened and operated a TV repair shop. He developed a liking for real estate which turned into a passion and became his full time career. He enjoyed repairing properties and developed an extensive skill base for various trades. He especially enjoyed developing new workers to do repairs. These activities afforded him the opportunity to have a positive influence on a variety of people throughout his life. In addition to real estate, fishing was his other lifetime passion.
He is survived by his wife Rowena, his son and daughter-in-law Reginald and Angela of PA, his son Stephen of Rochester, his sister Edna Edwards and brother Curtis Smart, Sr., both of New Haven, CT, his three nephews and one niece, and several grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
