Obituary of Sam Scott
Please share a memory of Sam to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
MR. SAM ROBERT SCOTT was born in Kingstree, South Carolina on February 7, 1950 to the late James and Pauline Scott. In the fall of 1951, the family relocated to Rochester, New York and eventually settled into their home on Glasgow Street.
Sam attended School No. 3 in the Corn Hill neighborhood before graduating from Madison High School in June of 1968. Shortly thereafter, he began working for Eastman Kodak Company as a lab technician and married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Wilson, in October of 1969.
Sam joined the Army in April of 1970 and became a military police officer. Before his honorable discharge in February of 1972, Sam also served in Vietnam, earning the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the National Defense Medal. Upon his return to Rochester, Sam resumed his work as a lab technician with Eastman Kodak, remaining with the company for a total of 18 years.
Sam's union with Shirley was blessed with two children, Sam Robert Scott Jr. and Sametria Scott, before they parted ways in 1980.
Before his health began to fail, Sam worked as a Receptionist/Office Manager for the Rochester Rehabilitation Center, a job that brought him great joy. There he helped to mentor both co-workers and applicants, alike.
Sam was an avid car enthusiast who loved building detailed model cars, reading, listening to music, and above all, spending time with his family.
Departing this life June 25, 2009, he is predeceased by his parents, James and Pauline Scott, and his brother, Steven Scott. He is survived by: his son, Sam Jr. (Patricia), daughter, Sametria; four grandchildren; brothers: William, Sherman, Nathaniel, Keith, and Gary, sisters Renee (Richard) and Theresa, and host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
