I knew John for 12 years. I trained with him for nearly four of those years. I still hear his booming, exasberated, voice saying 'MARGARET!'; all with a lilt in his voice. What impressed me most about John was his understanding of his role in the community...should he be a role model in a suburban school or a city school? You see you were so much more than someone who did not sucuumb to drugs or violence. You had a a gift. A snipet of John: Fun, funny, loved sports, loved music...you made my Wednesday nights. Your warm smile made me always know that you got it. You got that you were important. I will miss you forever big guy. And I love that you were a part of my life, a part of the circle of people who got me. I wince every time I see someone who looks like you; I just want you to be here. Bye buddy.

Cherese and family...
We grew up together and I have spent all week thinking about all of our fond memories of high school. John was like a big brother to me and my heart is heavy but I know that God has a plan even if we don't understand. Our love, prayers and sympathy are with you Cherese, the girls, your mom and dad and the rest of the family!

I had the honor of having John as my student at Empire State College, An avid student of history, John was very bright and possessed a disarming charm that made everyone around him feel at ease. It is with tears that I remember this fine student and wonderful man who spoke often and warmly of his close friend Beth and family. His passing is a genuine loss to all of us. John, I will miss you.

I worked with John through out the last 3 years at TCMS. From my very first day he made me feel welcome at the school, helping in anyway he could with a smile on his face. I didn't know him well but the impression he made will be with me a lifetime. I hope the family will find comfort in his memory. Deepest sympathy to all.

I met John at Mid-Town where he was my personal trainer for a year and a half. He helped me immensely, was always upbeat and supportive, and helped me to become "in shape" for the first time in my adult life. I am so sorry for your loss and hope you find comfort in knowing that John will be missed by those who had the privilege of knowing him.

John was a good and loyal friend. While I was on the periphery of his tight "family" of friends, he helped me through a very dark time. I will never forget him for that. Our trip to Montreal was one of the best trips of my life! My sincerest condolences to his entire family.

John added that extra special something to our classroom together. He went along with just about anything I threw out there in science. He helped toss pumpkins out windows, rode a sled, got dragged by a class of 8th graders in the snow and on a skateboard, and did it all not only with a smile....but made a HUGE impact on each of those kids while doing it. I ache knowing I can't share those memories with him anymore. You were a compassionate teacher, friend, and mentor to many. I miss you. God's gain is our loss.
