Obituary of Leola Jenkins
Please share a memory of Leola to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ms. Leola Wolfe Jenkins was born in Colquitt, GA to the late Corbett and Inez Wolfe on February 2, 1926. In the summer of 1955, Ms. Jenkins (Wolfe), with her two children, relocated to Rochester, NY.
After arriving in Rochester, Ms. Jenkins eventually married Peter Jenkins. Their union was blessed with two children. They remained married until Mr. Jenkins passed away in 1993. Mr. & Mrs. Jenkins became members of Antioch Baptist Church, a relationship that lasted more than fifty years.
Ms. Jenkins first job was as a presser at a dry cleaner. From there she went on to General Dynamics for a few years before she was eventually hired by Kodak. She took the bus to the Kodak employment office once a month for two years before she was hired.
Ms. Jenkins received her GED well into her fifties. She taught us that we should never be late to school nor miss any days. She checked on us consistently to ensure we were on time and in school. That behavior on her part prepared us for the work force. Thank you ma!
When her health began to seriously decline and she had to use a walker to get around she insisted on trying to continue her schedule of bowling with her retired friends, going to the church to feed those not as fortunate as herself, or meeting fellow retirees for lunch at their favorite restaurant.
Fluffy, her poodle, is a fourth generation poodle. Fluffy has been a part of mom's life for the last 14 years. She still runs to the door expecting to see her lifelong friend once again. Mom and Fluffy were inseparable.
Ms. Jenkins leaves behind four children: Willie L. Roberts, Chrystella Roberts, Jacqueline Smith Shepherd and Debra Denise Jenkins; nine grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; sisters, Mildred Nicely, Eumariel Nelson and Ruth Chapman; her Antioch Church family and many other relatives and friends.
Interment, Falls Cemetery, Greece, NY.
