Obituary of Norma James

Norma Louise was born on August 25, 1943 in Spring Mount, Saint James, Jamaica,West Indies to Joshia and Petroneta Emery. She was the youngest of eight children. She attended and graduated from John's Hall All Age School in Jamaica West Indies. Norma met Aubrey James "Sous Chef" as a teen and they later married on August 6, 1962 in Montego Bay, Jamaica, WI.
Their union produced five children. During her remaining time in Jamaica, she was fortunate to be able to stay at home nurturing her first four children. In January 1970, Norma and her four children rejoined her husband Aubrey in the United States settling in Rochester, N.Y. , where she experienced snow for the very first time. Later that year, she had her fifth child.
Norma quickly became a member of her community. She attended St. Andrews Parish and later joined St. Augustine Parish. In 1972, Norma obtained her cosmetology licenses from Continental Beauty School and then opened her own business, "Norma's Beauty Salon", in her home. In addition to working in her salon, she held various jobs at Taylor, Singer, Bausch and Lomb, and The Crown Plaza.
Norma's strong faith in God championed her through a long bout of illnesses. During this time, she extended her family to include the Adult Day Health Care at the Jewish Home, where the staff and participants loved her up for over 20 years. Norma enjoyed gardening, walking, and being showered with attention.

Norma went home to rest with her Heavenly Father on March 26, 2015.
She is predeceased by her parents, five brothers and 2 sisters.
Norma's love and memory continues on with her loving husband Aubrey, her five children: Earl (Linda), Donaven (Patrica), Navlette, Hewitt, and Karen (Jonathan) Rogers. Her seven devoted grandchildren: Camren, Shawniece, Devon, Kayla, Ian, KayJona and Jonathan II, and one great grandson Ayden Nicholas Brown. Special nieces: Verna Nelson (Aunt Cutie) and Cauline Hall (Baby Lynn). Her personal health aide and companion, Michelle Stanley and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the Jewish Home Adult Day Program, 2021 Winton Road South, Rochester, NY 14618.
Homegoing service, Saturday, 11AM(visitation will begin at 9AM). New Born Fellowship, 1550 N. Clinton Avenue. Interment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
