Obituary of John Goings

John Louis Goings was born on May 28, 1953 in Rochester, NY to the late John Cooper and Minnie Pearl Goings. He was the second oldest of six children.
John was educated in the Rochester City Schools, attending #9 for elementary and then continuing at James Madison High School. He accepted Christ at an early age, was baptized and united in fellowship with Pentecostal Memorial Baptist Church in Rochester, NY.
As a young man, he moved to Toledo, Ohio, staying there for six years. After returning to Rochester, he met and married Antoinette Nelson. From their union, two children were born: Ponce DeLeon J. Goings, and Kiyesha Lamece Goings.
He began working at the young age of 12, as a janitor at School #14, and he dabbled in roofing and blacktop. He worked as a concrete finisher for Hynes Concrete, Monroe Roadway, and Alco Paving. He returned to Monroe Roadway and retired from there. He was a die-hard fan of the Buffalo Bills and loved watching Jeopardy. He enjoyed fishing, cooking, and eating.
John was predeceased by his mother Minnie Pearl Goings, father John Cooper, and youngest sister Carrie Goings.
John leaves to cherish his memories six children: Stephen Buckingham, Dimennga Wyley, LaTasha Wyley, Ponce DeLeon J. Goings, Kiyesha Lemece Goings, and Alisa Mae Goings. Ten grandchildren: Keyanna and LaCresha Wyley, Tonie Mitchell, Dehaven Buckingham, Alexandria Buckingham, Kee-Montae Wyley, Terry Rameck D. Battle, Deasaire Samone Doster, Prince T. Goings, and Amani L. Redd. Siblings May Jones, Jessie Goings (Willie Brown), Spencer Goings, James Goings, and Anthony Cooper. Goddaughter Johnnah Phillips, special cousin Margaret Thacker, a special friend Myra, a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
