Jean Iris Maddox was born to the late Mildred and Genie Hawkins on August 9, 1948, in Skippers, VA. She was the second oldest of her siblings. The family moved to Buffalo, NY in 1952 for better employment opportunities. While there, she attended East High school. Jean married Arthur Fields, Sr. and they raised four children: Adrian, Andrea, Arthur, Jr. and Gina. Later in life, she married the late Carry D. Maddox. Jean was a caring, generous, good-hearted person with a witty sense of humor. She truly loved her family, especially her four children. She enjoyed gardening, decorating, shopping, jigsaw puzzles, word games, family gatherings, and helping others. Her greatest joy in life, however, was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Jean was employed by Eastman Kodak Company in the Quality Control Division, a position she held for 20 years. During that time, she attended Monroe Community College where she was certified in Quality Control Technology. After retiring from Kodak, she began a second career as a Programs Assistant for Continuing Developmental Services (CDS) where she passionately cared for adults with disabilities.
Jean gave her life to Christ and was a former member of Reynolds Street Church of Christ. She frequently visited churches while trying to find a new church home.
Jean departed this life on July 11, 2023. She was preceded in death by: her parents, Mildred and Genie Hawkins, stepfather Willard Chambers; two siblings Gwendolyn and Clinton, and husband Carry Maddox. She leaves to cherish her loving memories: one brother Herbert (Dorothy) Hawkins; four children; Adrian Brown, Andrea (Lamont) Jarrett, Arthur (Sonya) Fields, Jr. and Gina Fields; stepchildren; Sandra, Alton, Lawrence, Crystal; grandchildren; Timothy, Luke, ShaTonya, Ashley, AJ, Demetri, Arthur III, Marcus, Antonio, Jason, Ajanae, Adrian, Jr., Romeo and Honor. Great grandchildren; Tai, Ma’liyah, A’lorah, Angelis, Marily, Nahla, Sire and King; forever daughters-in-law; Renee and Vicki, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who loved her dearly.
