Our mother, Evangelist, Janice T. Wideman was born in Walnut Grove, MS on August 9th, 1942, to the late Jessie Tate and Essie Black-Tate. Janice accepted Christ as a young child at Harmony Missionary Baptist Church in Lena, MS. She attended Sebastopol Elementary School in Sebastopol, MS under the leadership of her Mother Essie Black-Tate who served as her teacher and principal.

She was married to Edgar L. Wideman and to this union 4 children were born: Michael, Michelle, Lisa and Mary Ann.

Evangelist Wideman, as she was often calle, was a very active member in Christ Temple Apostolic Faith Church. She held many positions while being a member including but not limited to the Church Secretary, Usher Board President, and Sunday School Teacher for nearly forty years.

Janice began her career at Eastman Kodak where she retired from after 30 years.  She began her second career at 60 years old as the Parent Liaison at Frank Fowler Dow School #52. She actually went back to school when most people are keen to retire so she could be certified to do the job she with School #52. She was instrumental in shaping so many young minds and their families that even when they left the school they would visit and call her just to see how she was doing. She would have retired this year after almost 17 years.

Janice we predeceased in death by her parents Jessie Tate and Essie Black-Tate; Deidre Cotton, Detroit, MI;  two aunts, Lessie Mae Brisco of Jackson, MS and Ann Tate Riley of Carthage, MS. Janice leaves to cherish her memories and continue her legacy; 4 loving children: Michael Wideman, Michele Wideman-Gundlach, Lisa M. Wideman of Rochester, NY and Mary Ann Wideman of Austin, TX; sisters, Ruth Taylor of Altadena, CA,  Connie Tate of Jackson, MS and Sharner Tate of Jackson, MS. Seven grandchildren, Nick Gundlach (Amelie), Joshua Wideman, Ashli Hadley (Jeremy), Ryan Gundlach, Jordan Gundlach, Jericho Gundlach, TJ Graham-Wideman (Delaney) and Olivia Haven, one great grandson, Hazard Hadley; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins who she loved. She also leaves behind her special family of co-workers, church family and special friends who offered physical and emotional support.
