Joseph Allen was born in Colquitt, Georgia on July 24, 1941 to Haley Hicks (Allen-Farmer) and Clinton Allen. After his mother’s passing, he stayed with his Aunt Emma who continued to care for him and mold him into the great man whom we all know and love. He graduated from Bethel High School in Colquitt, GA, and shortly after moved to Rochester, New York to work and settle down. Joseph worked at Genesee Hospital in the Dietary department for 2 years, where he met his wife, Bobbie Allen. In 1964 he was drafted into the Army serving two years in Fort Knox, Kentucky and Fort Benning Georgia as a Light Weapons Infantryman. He was honorably discharged in 1966 and moved back to Rochester, NY. Upon his return, he began working at Kodak in the Perforations department and obtained the position of supervisor prior to his retirement in 1992.
He was a man of very many skills and trades, which he practiced out of shear love for the craft. Those hobbies included carpentry, gardening, fishing, and photography. In addition, he enjoyed helping his wife cook and sew, and she assisted him with his projects as well. They were two peas in a pod who were inseparable. Joseph was a humble, devoted, and kind spirited man with a gentle and loving disposition. He will be deeply missed by us all.
To cherish in his memory, he leaves behind his wife Bobbie Allen, three daughters; Deborah Woods, Kimberly Allen, and Haley Elise Allen, Son; Anthony (Kathy) McCrea, five grand-sons; Davin Hicks, Tyler Hicks, Adrian (Jenna) Womack, Christian Womack, and Robert Gross; three grand-daughters; Lydesha McCrea, Desiree McCrea, and Bobbie McCrea, special cousins; Lorenzo Kimbrel, Nell K. Jones, and Sandra Griffin; special aunt and uncle: Georgia Mae Henderson and BJ Allen, special sons-in-law, Michael Woods and Kenny Hatch, special caregiver Ruth Ross, and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his mother Haley Hicks (Allen-Farmer), father Clinton Allen, aunt Emma Kimbrel, daughter Veronica McCrea, and two grandsons; Lawrence McCrea Jr. and Anthony Gross.
