Clay Chapman was born on February 3, 1963, to Gertrude Chapman at Rochester General Hospital in Rochester NY.
He attended various schools in the Rochester City School district and finished his education at Sperry High School. He was very athletic and had a love for gymnastics while in school.
Once adulthood set in, Clay took a love for artistry and drawing but his favorite past time became cooking in which he later became a chef and started his cooking career at Strong Memorial Hospital where he earned the title the “Master Chef” by his coworkers and patients which adored him so much.
Clay was known for his affectionate laugh, his own fly style, and he was a loving, caring person, one who also had the biggest heart and loved everyone. He often opened his doors to those who needed somewhere to stay, needed a hot meal or just to lend an ear to listen. He left a lasting impression with everyone that he met. Clay loved all of his family and friends and had a unique bond with each of them. And we can’t forget his love for his fur baby “Bullet”.
But Clay also could be an introvert at times, and was known for his famous “Clay Statements”, “I don’t want to talk right now”, “I don’t want any company or visitors”, “I’m not going nowhere” and “Never mind I’ll catch an Uber”.
Clay is pre-deceased by his Grandfather Bennie Clemons, Grandmother Mariam (Myra) Clemons and his 2 special friends, Eric Mclean & Kathy Donofrio.
Clay leaves to Cherish his Long-Lasting Memories: 1 daughter: Akira Watson, 2 granddaughters, Xavia & Xhaira Howard, and 1 grandson Akai Cleveland. His loving mother: Gertrude Chapman, 1 brother, Brian Chapman (Crystal), 3 sisters: Tangela Brown (Hayward), Caroline Morrison (Christopher), and Ana Lowe (Anthony). A host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins, which he visited frequently and had a special bond with. A special and devoted friend Alton Smith (his Booka), Foster Williams, and James George (Poppa).
Clay loved us all in his own special way, to know him was to love him, he really gave you no other option. He will forever be in our hearts.
