Delores Marie Geter was born in Elmira, NY on December 19, 1940. She was the third child in a sibship of four born to Louis and Rovina Rouse. Affectionately known by her family as “Lowie,” Delores graduated from Elmira Free Academy in 1959. She attended State University of New York at Fredonia where she majored in Education. Delores was one of the first black homecoming princesses at the school before graduating in 1962. She then moved to Rochester, NY to complete student teaching and embarked on a forty plus year career as a teacher. As an educator, Delores was committed to her students and their families, making a life changing impact on the children she encountered.
In 1966, after knowing each other their entire lives, Delores married Robert Geter with whom she had two daughters, Jennifer Lynn, and Stephanie Leigh. She was a loving and devoted wife to Robert, an exceptional mother to her children, and grandmother to her only grandson, Jordan.
Delores was an amazing cook and baker. She was known for her chicken and biscuits, her chicken and waffles, and for baking specialty cakes for any event.
For over thirty years, Delores was a faithful member and mother of Bethesda Church of God in Christ (Bishop Ronald and Lady Jennifer Hoston). Delores loved her church family and dedicated years of service to both the church and Bethesda Child Development Center.
Dedicated to service, scholarship, and sisterhood, Delores was a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and was inducted into the Rochester Alumnae Chapter in 1997.
Delores loved her family and enjoyed close relationships with each of her siblings, Delmar Rouse, Marvin Rouse, and Judith Rouse Harris. She also had a special relationship with her most recently deceased aunt, Nellie Jennings.
Delores is survived by her husband Robert, her two daughters, Dr. Jennifer Geter and Dr. Stephanie Geter, a grandson, Jordan Geter, a brother, Marvin Rouse (Brenda), and many nieces, nephews, sister-friends, Sorors, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Rovina Rouse, her brother, Delmar Rouse, her sister, Judith Rouse Harris, and a number of maternal aunts, uncles and cousins.
