“A Flower in God’s Garden”
Deborah Ann Shellman was born May 9, 1957, at John Walker Hospital in Fort Myers, Florida. She was the second daughter of Lena Mae Jackson and Raymond Lee Shellman.
Deborah attended Franklin Park Elementary School in Fort Myers. In 1965, the family and a few of her mother’s siblings, moved to Rochester, New York. Here, Deborah attended School No. 19 where she received an award as a Crossing Guard. Her middle school education was obtained at Wilson High School (West). At James Madison Sr. High School, Deborah was active in sports such as volleyball, baseball, and track. During her senior year, Deborah was diagnosed with mental illness. This illness can make daily living difficult, but Deborah pushed through her challenges and was able to live life independently. In the midst of life’s challenges, Deborah was blessed with two sons, LeeRoy Michael Shellman and Johnathan Amos Shellman.
Her love of nature was demonstrated through her passion for feeding the birds. She had a giving heart, as well. She would literally give you the coat off her back. If you happened to compliment her on something she was wearing, she would give it to you.
Deborah was a faithful member of Faith Temple Apostolic Church for over 30 years. She later joined Zion Dominion Global Ministries to be with her biological family.
She transitioned this life on October 7, 2022, while listening to her favorite song, “God is Still in Charge” by Willie Banks and The Messengers. She is predeceased by her loving mother, Lena Mae (Raymond) Shellman. She leaves to cherish her memory: two sons, LeeRoy Michael Shellman and Johnathan Amos Shellman; three brothers: Willie James Cason, Chester Lee (Cassandra) Shellman Sr., and Freddie Lee (Marlene, predeceased) Shellman; three sisters: Mary Alice Jackson, Gwendolyn (Walter) Williams and Shirley Jean Shellman, in addition to a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives, church family and friends.
