Gerald “Jerry” Thomas Joseph was born on February 13, 1954 in Manhattan, New York. His family moved to Brooklyn, New York when he was six years old. In 1966, Jerry received the Holy Sacrament of Confirmation at St. John the Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York. In 1972, Jerry graduated from George Westinghouse Technical School in Brooklyn, New York. He worked as a promoter for Polydor Records before taking on his life long career in the hotel and hospitality industry for more than 28 years. Jerry suffered a stroke in 2015, and relocated to Rochester, New York in 2016. Jerry resided at Monroe Community Hospital until his passing on March 24, 2022.
Jerry’s passion was Music. He was a Disc Jockey, and his musical selections and timing kept everyone at the party on their feet. Jerry loved to share his musical knowledge with anyone in his presence. Jerry enjoyed nature and watching all of the beautiful animals of the world. He also enjoyed eating exotic foods, and he would try almost any cuisine. Jerry was an avid sports fan who watched all sports. No matter which sport he watched, he had a favorite team and a strong opinion! Jerry is loved by all of his family, and we will miss him tremendously.
Jerry is preceded in death by his mother, Josephine Joseph; step-father, Robert Dixon; sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Clayton Johnson; brother, Robert Smith; grandmother and grandfather, Janlaney Williams and Joe Joseph.
Jerry is survived by his brother, Timothy (Zestean) Smith; sister-in-law, Lisa Martin; aunt, Christina (Fred) Rasberry; nieces and nephews: Tiffany Martin, Tariq (Courtney) Smith, Tanisha Martin, Idris (Elizabeth) Smith, Sakina Smith, Monet Martin (Bobby Joe), Ameen Smith (Hayley), and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
