A Beloved Wife, Mother, and Sister

Joyce A. Sermons was born on June 19, 1952 in Omega, Georgia to the late Leroy James Spain and Ethel Mae Holmes Spain -- a construction masonry and a childcare advocate. She received her education in Valdosta, Georgia.

Joyce was a generous, thoughtful and passionately caring individual. She was an active member of New York State Childcare Association, which lead her to a rewarding career in childcare services for Monroe County. Her heart was full, and it overflowed onto all who knew her.

Joyce was a straight-talking sister that passionately cared for at risk youth and troubled adults; motivating them to make good choices. To miss someone so much means they were extremely special, we were blessed to have her in our lives. She is in our hearts forever and will always be missed. We know she’s happy now and isn’t in pain. It hurts to be apart, but we will see her again. We are comforted to know she is in heaven, sharing her gifts and smiling down on all of us.

Joyce leaves to cherish her memories, her husband Thomas Sermons; sons: LoShon Roberto Spain and Quincy Lamont Sermons; daughter Elizabeth Nicole Sermons; Joyce is also survived by her siblings: Mae Ethel (Eddie) Koonce, Linda Crawford, Christine Spain (Garfield) Taylor, Debra Spain, Marvin Duval, Tony Duval, Joanne Duval, Sonjia Duval, Royce Duval and Tonya Duval, along with a host of grand and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Joyce is predeceased by her parents: Leroy James Spain and Ethel Mae Holmes Spain and brother-in-law Willie Frank Crawford.
