Joseph Augustus Nelson was born on January 6, 1923 in
Galloway District Westmoreland, Jamaica West Indies to
Rosey and Alexander Nelson.


Joseph attended and graduated from Sutlift Mount High
School. After graduation he acquired working papers to
work in Cuba. He worked hard, saved money and then
immigrated to England where he was employed in a coal
mine.


Joseph married Edna in England. They immigrated to
the United States. He was employed at General Motors
in Rochester, New York until he retired on July 1, 1986.
Joseph and Edna’s family consisted of Jasmine, Wesley,
Derrick, Roy and Charles. Joseph was a member of the
Ebenezer Baptist Church in Rochester, New York under
the leadership of Reverend Dr. Anthony Bonds. Joseph
loved planting flowers in the church yard and doing any
outdoor beautification to the church.


Joseph is predeceased by his parents: Rosey and
Alexander Nelson and son, Roy Nelson. He leaves to
mourn, his wife of 63 years Edna; children Jasmine
(Manhattan, New York), Wesley (Jamaica, West Indies),
Derrick (United Kingdom) and Charles Arizona; 2
grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, other family
and friends.
