Obituary of Lois Nichols

Please share a memory of Lois to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Lois Nichols, the daughter of Grant McCune and Audrey Mae Tingle Mapp was born on July 12, 1943 in Newton Mississippi. She was the fourth child of nine born in Newton, Mississippi.

Her love for God started at a young age. She joined St. Mary MB Church as a young child. This is where she enjoyed singing in the choir with her sisters Myrtle Mae and Helen.

She attended and graduated from C.H. Boler High School, Class of 1963. She achieved the honor of Salutatorian. Looking for a bigger and bright future she set her sights on the big city. She moved to Jamaica, Queen.  She was married in 1969 to Harold Nichols. That union produced a daughter, Neva.

In Queens, she was very active in her church home Allen A.M.E and later joined the Eastern Stars. She held many positions in the Easterns organization and traveled all over the United states with them.

In 1995, she moved to Rochester, NY. She became a member of Baber A.M.E church and flourished her love for singing. The song Give me my flowers was what started it all.

Lois loved three things in life, the lord, her friends/family and her daughter.  She never met a person that she could not talk to and make a friend. Her favorite past times were baking, talking on the phone and spreading the word of God. She loved sending a word of encouragement or congratulation in a card. She was instrumental in setting up two bible studies in the community. She leaves a legacy of love for family, love of the Lord and the love of song.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Grant McCune and Audrey Mae Tingle Mapp, her brother Tommy Lee McCune, sisters Willie Mae Hill and Myrtle Mae McCune Brown and her nieces Sheryl T. Mapp and Sandra Phedforn.

Lois Nichols leaves to cherish the rich memories of her life, her daughter Neva Nichols(Andre Collier). Two brothers: Clifton Mapp Jr(Pat) Cresco, PA. | Wille Joe Mapp(Shirley) McLeanville, NC; Three Sisters: Hellen Chisolm, Clint,M.S | Edna Moore(Jessie), Newton, MS | Iris Bogan, Newton, MS.;a host of nieces, nephews, friends, her church family at Baber A.M.E.
