Obituary of Alice Marie Agyemang

Alice M. B. Agyemang was born on May 12, 1945 in Key West, Florida (Monroe County). Alice was the first child of the union of Thomas Jefferson Bowman and Inez (Georgia) Hinton. Alice received her formal education within the Seminole County School System in Florida. Alice was baptized at Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church in Sannford, Florida as an adolescent.

Alice relocated to Rochester in 1964 upon graduating from High School. Upon arrival, she started work at the Monroe County state Hospital (Rochester Psychiatric Center) for two years. After leaving the State Hospital, Alice undertook the training program for a Mimeograph Operator. Thereafter, she was hired by Pfahler manufacturing company located in Rochester during the 60s and 70s. The company moved out of Rochester to a new city during the late 70s.

In 1970, Alice started school at the Monroe Community College and earned her Associate degree in liberal Arts. She registered at State University of New York at Geneseo where she obtained a bachelors degree in Sociology in 1973. Between 1973 and 1976, she worked part with the County.

She started full-time work at the Monroe County Health Department in 1976. She worked there for twenty nine years working both as an Examiner and a Social worker. While working at the Monroe County Health Department, she registered for a Masters degree program in Gerontology on part time basis. She obtained her Masters degree in Gerontology in 1992, from Syracuse University.

Alice was very active in family related social activities. She took special interest in organizing family reunions, holiday gatherings and securing tickets for social events within the Rochester vicinity and beyond. Fashion-wise, Alice was gifted in knowing what to wear and when to wear them. Her favorite color was green. When it came to shopping or just browsing, she was magnificent and always in charge. Most of my fancy and delightful dresses were picked by her in her usual weekend shopping extravaganza. Believe it or not, she knew when the stores had special sales resulting in her purchasing very valuable and sophisticated items at relatively low prices. This will remain a key aspect of her legacy.

Alice was a very religious woman. Going to church gave her special pleasure, satisfaction and also made her a complete person. She was very active in church activities including organizing Kindergarten classes and Sunday schools and other activities deemed necessary by the church management. Sundays remained the most important and glorifying days for Alice.

In socials, Alice would be characterized as a funny Lady. She surprised many people who knew her very well with her uncanny ability to make people laugh. She also danced with so much vigor and grace as if nobody was watching, especially, when she heard her favorite music.

Alice, I love you and I will always love you. Hopefully, I will see you again in paradise. May God welcome your gentle soul unto his Heavenly Paradise.
