Obituary of Glenn Roy Edwards
Glenn Roy Edwards was born October 7, 1948 in New Port, Rhode Island. He spent his early childhood in the care of his uncle and aunt, Joseph and Lorena Doucette and grandmother Carrie Cormier in New Iberia, Louisiana where he completed elementary school.
At age 13, he joined the rest of his family in Rochester, New York. In 1967, he graduated from West High School where he enjoyed wrestling and participating in talent shows. He attended Oberlin College where he met his wife of 49 years, Leslie Carolyn Cosby. In college he wrestled, played football, lacrosse and enjoyed cheering on the college basketball team. He was a member of the class of 1972 and earned his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy. He received his Master of Social Work (MSW) from Barry University in 1980.
Glenn enjoyed a career as a social worker in Miami, Florida and Rochester, New York. He worked as a substitute teacher for the Rochester City School District. He enjoyed playing chess and was proud of the accomplishments of the City School District chess teams that he coached. He was an avid football fan and loved to sing and dance. He enjoyed singing with the Male Chorus and Chorale at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church.
He was a devoted father and enjoyed supporting his children: Kwesi and Nia in high school, college athletics and artistic performances. He often traveled to their games and performances in Rochester and around the region.
He studied in Beirut, Lebanon, traveled to Ghana and Nigeria and loved visiting family for holidays and special events. He was a founding member of Rock Steady Boxing Rochester which offered support, encouragement, and comradery in his fight against Parkinson’s Disease.
Glenn leaves precious memories that will live in the hearts of his wife Leslie Carolyn; son Kwesi Edwards (Yvette) of San Francisco, California; daughter Nia Dalley (David) of St. Albans, New York; two grandchildren: Bryton and Parker Edwards; sister Tanya Ruiz; brothers: Clifton and Edward (Esther) Barideaux; sisters-in-law: Joyce Cosby Harris (Clarence) and Jeanne Cosby along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, and cherished friends. He is predeceased by his mother Mary Barideaux; father Clifton Barideaux; brother Lubbie Edwards; brother-in-law Rafael Ruiz and sister-in-law Debra Edwards.
