Obituary of Armand Johnson

Armand (aka “Butch”) was born on February 9, 1956 to Julia Mae (Truitt) and Woodrow Johnson
in Detroit, Michigan. He was their second child and definitely kept them on their toes. The family
moved to Rochester, New York where he spent the majority of his life.

As a child , he attended Immaculate Conception Elementary School and was an active Boy Scout
and enjoyed playing basketball throughout his life. When Butch started high school at Sperry in
Henrietta, New York he met what would be lifelong friends. Butch was always known as the guy
who would make you smile or laugh, even if you weren’t feeling like it.

Butch was lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where he and his mom
would often attend service together. He served in the Army briefly and upon returning home to
Rochester he met and married Michelle Smiley. Together they had two sons: Armand and Aaron.
Butch was truly a great dad and friend to his sons. They enjoyed fishing, grilling and hanging out
together.

Anyone who knew Butch knew he was the life of the party. There wasn’t a barbeque, birthday
party, festival or concert that he didn’t attend with his personal lawn chair always in the back
of his car. He was a caring son, father, brother, cousin, companion and friend. Butch worked
at Strong Memorial Hospital for several years until an injury forced an early retirement. After
retiring, he became an “unofficial UBER” helping friend get to and from their destinations.
Later in life he met Joné Redar and they would be companions until his passing.

Armand passed away peacefully on October 2, 2021 at Strong Memorial Hospital after a brief
illness.

Armand is predeceased by his father Woodrow, mother Julia, and oldest brother Terence. He is
survived by his two sons: Armand and Aaron; sister Judith (Tom) Burgess; four grandchildren:
Aaron Johnson, Jr., Amari Johnson, Avrion Pinder and Khari Johnson; two great-grandchildren
Aaron Johnson-Briggs III and Aaron Johnson IV; two nieces: Terese and Vivian; two nephews: Avery and
Branden along with a host of relatives and friends that will sincerely miss him.
Though we will all miss him hopefully we have a memory or two that makes us smile. He would
want all of us to have happy memories of him. If we feel ourselves getting too sad missing him,
remember his famous words: “knock it off ”.
