Obituary of Kevin L. Mister

Please share a memory of Kevin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Kevin Lamon Mister was born in Rochester, New York on September 15, 1982 to Ethel Mae Mister and Roderick Carlton Nelson, Sr. He was the middle child of five siblings.

Kevin attended Enrico Fermi School #17 for grade school.  For secondary school he attended, Jefferson Middle School and John Marshall High School in Rochester, New York.  Kevin earned his Licensure in Practical Nursing (LPN) from the Rochester Educational Opportunity Center.   He practiced nursing for several years in the city of Rochester, spreading love and hope to many he came in contact with.  Kevin was also a passionate barber and earned his Professional Master Barber License in Rochester, New York.

Kevin received Christ at an early age at the Pentecostal Miracle Deliverance Center Church under the leadership of Bishop Willie Smith Jr, who he affectionately called “Pops.”  He was an active member in the youth choir, youth usher board and the Junior Disciples of Christ (J.D.O.C) young men’s group.  He was ordained as a minister of the gospel at the Pentecostal Miracle Deliverance Center Church.  Kevin also attended Faith, Hope and Charity Worship Center under the leadership of his best friend, Bishop E. J. E Crocker.

On September 23, 2017, Kevin married his high school sweetheart Alike Adams, also the mother of his daughter Aniya Mister, who Kevin pet named “Bina.”  He was extremely proud of both Alike and Aniya and loved them dearly.

Kevin and his brothers participated in boxing for several years at the St. Martins Boxing Club where he won several awards.  Boxing was a sport that he loved - watching it was a favorite past time.  He also loved fishing.  Kevin had many talents – he was a backup drummer at church, he was a jokester and a storyteller; he thought he was a talented singer… (he wasn’t).  Kevin absolutely loved shopping!  He was a sneaker and cologne connoisseur – and loved to dress in the latest fashions, mostly Ralph Lauren.  He also loved cars.

Kevin was very free hearted.  Although he loved the finer things – he would give it to you off his back.  Kevin’s favorite words of affection were “I love you with all my heart.”  He was very strong willed and moved at his own pace.  He had the strongest faith and would often tell his wife Alike, and others, “if I ever get shot, don’t take me to the hospital – take me to the alter.”

Kevin rededicated his life to Christ in recent months.  His favorite scripture – 2 Corinthians 5.17 KJV - “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”  He is in Heaven rejoicing.

Kevin Lamon Mister is predeceased by his maternal grandmother Ida Mae Starks and maternal grandfather, Charlie Mister; paternal grandmother Sandra Nelson and his father, Roderick C. Nelson, Sr.
