Obituary of Olivia Allen
On August 23, 2021, our beloved mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, cousin and loyal friend, Olivia Allen was welcomed home to glory. Born on June 19, 1933 to Ola Sweet in Meigs, Georgia. As a child in the rural south, Olivia worked as sharecropper until the late 1940s until she moved to Sanford, Florida. She gave birth to her first son Ronnie during her stay in the sunshine state. Seeking a better life for her family, Olivia joined her brother Obbie Murray, who relocated to Rochester, New York. In 2010, Olivia joined her son Robert in Charlotte, NC, where she enjoyed doing her crossword puzzles and spending time with her son.
Olivia lived a full life. She loved her four boys: Ronnie, Ricky, Robert and Donald. She had a very special relationship with each one of them. Olivia’s children were the apple of her eye. Olivia's home became a safe haven for many children. She contributed to the development of the precious jewels enrolled in her daycare. They affectionately called her “Grandma”. Olivia’s loving, caring nature moved her to treat everyone the same regardless of their experience in life. She didn’t have a negative bone in her body. Her door was always open. She was loved and adored by the Manhattan Square community.
Olivia enjoyed baking and cooking. She found great pleasure in feeding anyone who graced her kitchen. A light of love emanated from her whenever she cooked. Her baked goods were epic. If you ever had the pleasure of enjoying her food you would taste the love in every bite. She found great joy in sewing. She delighted in creating beautiful quilts and comforters.
Olivia loved to love. If she loved you, you were her “baby". She had a forgiving spirit and never held your mistakes against you. Everyone was family to her. She had an extra special sweet spot for her great great granddaughter Sanai. She loved her some “Nai".
Left to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy are her sons: Ronald Allen (Rochester, NY) and Robert (April) Allen (Charlotte, NC); granddaughter Tobi Clark (Atlanta, GA); great-granddaughters: Shontelle Clark and Shanelle Clark (Atlanta, GA); great-great granddaughter Sanai Monét Brumfield (Atlanta, GA); her beloved nephew Kim Murray (Rochester, NY) and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Olivia is predeceased by her mother Ola Sweet and sons: Richard “Ricky” Allen and Donald Allen. Olivia Allen will be remembered as "one of the sweetest people who walked the face of the earth".
