Obituary of Patrick Hanna
Life Story
Patrick (Pat) Roslyn Hanna was born in Miami, Florida on Wednesday, June 19, 1929 to Byron and Rosa Hanna. He had one sister, Dorothy Jean, and one brother, Byron. Pat’s education was interrupted in the 7 th grade, as it was necessary for him to leave school to help provide for his family. His educational deficiency was limited because of his love of reading. He read the Philadelphia Inquirer from front to back every day. As a result, he was always aware of what was going on in the city. Pat was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
On Sunday August 31, 1947, Pat married Doris Gamble, whom he met at Albany State College during a trip to visit another coed. The two had common interests, and the rest is history (a 72-year marriage). Their union resulted in two sons, Patrick Jr. and Richard. Doris passed on Tuesday, February 18, 2020.
For the first part of his adult life, Pat was a bread baker, until he was introduced to the laundromat business in 1972. The success of three “Pat’s Laundromat” stores led to the purchase of multiple rental properties, all of which he enjoyed managing for over 49 years. In 1991 he joined the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge (No. 74) of Free and Accepted Masons. The Masonic life brought an intense sense of pride until the day he passed.
Pat lived his life his way, and by his rules. A life well lived.
Cherishing the memories of his life are his sons Patrick Jr (Jocelyn) and Richard; three grandsons, Brandon (Niki), Jason (Kristen) and Corel; six great grandchildren, Jayden, Miles, Jason Jr (Jay Jay), Allison (Alli), Natalie and Ryan; two nieces, Deborah and Sharron; one daughter-in-law, Linda Hanna-Foreman; and a host of grand nieces and nephews, as well as friends and business associates.
