Obituary of Thomasthel Johnson
Thomasthel Johnson affection ately known as “Thom” was born on December 21, 1928 to the late Nero Moyd and Creola Briggs in the Bloomingville community of Andrews, South Carolina.
She received her education in the Bloomingville community of Andrews, South Carolina. “Thom” was the widow of Arthur Johnson. Six children were born to their union. The family relo- cated to Woodbrige, New York. In 1964, the family permanently moved to Rochester, New York.
She was employed by the University of Rochester where she would retire. Thomasthel was a long-time member and mother at St. John Missionary Baptist Church. She will always be remembered as the matriarch of the family. Ready to extend love and advice to anyone. “Thom” loved gar- dening and fishing. She often could be found at her favorite fishing hole or planting flowers and vegetables in her garden. “Thom” was a pillar of strength and wisdom to her family, church and community.
On January 10, 2021, Thomasthel peacefully passed away in her sleep. She left a charge to those left to carry on her legacy - to be pillars of hope, love and stregthen to her chil- dren: Theron Johnson (deceased), Melvin (Debra) Johnson (San Fran- cisco, California), Roslyn Williams (deceased), John (Adele) Johnson, Creola (Merris) Gibbs (Rochester, New York) and Randolph (Eileen) Johnson (Rochester, New York), She also leaves behind a host of
brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
