Obituary of Lonnie B. Youmans

Lonnie B. Youmans Sr., known commonly by family as B.L. was born on September 19th, 1932 in Pineland, South Carolina to Jesse Youmans and Lillie Mae Horton, the 4th child to this union. After the passing of his mother during childbirth when he was three, Lonnie and his sister Lenore were raised by their grandparents Israel and Mamie Horton in Pineland. There he attended Padgett Branch School, and along with his sister was baptized at Padgett Branch Baptist Church. Lonnie and his sister then later moved to Georgetown, South Carolina where they then attended Howard Public School. There in Georgetown, he danced into the heart of Wilhemena Golden and were united in love on September 7th, 1962. Lonnie and Mena loved to dance,they were the best on the dance floor. From this union came four children, which they raised in the infamous Hanover Housing until they moved into their home. Their home was always inviting and filled with love, laughter, and good food. Lonnie worked at Phalden Gleason and then Harris Corporation as a night supervisor for 23 years until he retired. He later worked at Wegmans for several years in the warehouse bakeshop until his health enabled him to do so. One of Lonnie's favorite things to say was "Strong like Bull!" which he was. Nothing could keep him down. He would also say he was "parking lot pimpin'" and "stylin' and profilin'." He loved to get dressed and go out on the town with his granddaughter or by himself. You would always catch him in a pair of Stacey Adams. He would often meet up with his brother and cousins for breakfast at iHop or Wegmans cafe. The breakfast club, as we called them. He loved to travel, listen to good music (not that stuff on the radio), making people laugh and dancing. He was a people person, no matter where he went everybody loved him and that smile that would light up a room, as well as his words of wisdom. It may not have been made sense to you at that moment but later it would. He'd often ask what's on your mind? But let you respond nothing, he'd tell you a mind was a terrible thing to waste. Lonnie recently celebrated his 88th birthday on the 19th of September. He was called home on September 22, 2020, predeceased by his wife (Sept 20, 2003), sister Willa Mae Memminger, and brother Edward Youmans. He leaves to cherish his memory 3 sons: Fred Golden, Lonnie Youmans Jr., and Dawaine Youmans, 1 devoted daughter, Brenda Youmans, 5 grandchildren: his dedicated granddaughter Lonnice Robinson, Lametra Youmans, Lonnie Youmans III, Jasmine Youmans, and Jamar Youmans, and 1 great-grand Aubrianna Youmans, his sister Gertrude (Harold) Brown and Lenore Conyers, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Lonnie was an honorable, loveable, and dedicated man and would do anything for anybody, especially his family, that he cherished and loved so much. His legacy will forever live on through them. He will be missed dearly and we celebrate the full life that he lived.
