Obituary of Gracie Mae Jackson
Please share a memory of Gracie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mrs. Gracie Jackson was born on December 15, 1931 in Monroe
Louisiana, to the late Harry and Ophelia Jones. She later moved
to Macomb Mississippi where she met and married the love of
her life the late Matthew (Slim) Jackson; and to this Union six
children were born. Gracie and Slim Jackson eventually relocated
to Rochester, NY in 1956 where she spent her life-time as a
homemaker and caretaker while raising her children. Mrs. Gracie
enjoyed spending her time playing her favorite game (Bingo). She
also liked going to OTB and the casinos—her favorite casino was
Finger Lakes Casino.
Mrs. Gracie was a very kind, quiet gentle lady who would always
greet you with a sweet smile and a warm whisper of hello. Those
who knew her loved her dearly. She touched many lives with her
kind, gentle demeanor and she never raised her voice.
Mrs. Gracie took ill and was hospitalized in March of 2020 and
immediately, all of her children went into “Caretaker” mode.
They took twenty-four hour shifts around the clock with her at
Strong Memorial Hospital. She never lacked care or love during
her entire stay at the hospital.
Early Wednesday morning on July 22, 2020 about 6:22am, Mrs.
Gracie heard the Lord call her name and she took flight and
headed home. When she arrived in Heaven, there was so many
loved ones awaiting her arrival. She saw her mom and dad Harry
and Ophelia Jones, along with her son Richard Wagner. She also
reunited with her four brothers: William Jones, Aaron Jones,
Harry Jones, Jr. and Robert Lee Jones; her brother-in-law Booker
T. Washington; and all three of her sons-in-law: John (Gypsy)
Moran, Robert (Tobie) Tobler and Larry Griffin were waiting to
welcome her home.
Left behind here on earth to carry on her legacy are her children
Edward (Veronica) Wagner, Barbara Jackson; Charles Jackson,
Ernestine Jackson-Tobler and Deborah Jackson. A sister Lucille
Washington; Nieces & Nephews: Loretta Washington and Lois
Brown; her grandchildren; Larry Griffin Jr., Robert (Shanelle)
Tobler Jr., Bernita Griffin, Janiqua Jackson, Charles Jackson Jr.,
Sharod Dixon, Shamar Griffin, Nikki Mooter and Jamel Griffin;
special Great-granddaughter Diamond Tobler and God-son Peter
Brown, along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Other very special people in her life: Tobthia Moran, Mrs. Gladys
Siplin, Brenda Briggs, Ronnie Gross, Sandra Graham, James
Barkley, Sherry Birmingham and Karla Robertson. A special thank
you to her Nurse Mary Angerame, Pharmacist Lynn Goil and
Anthony Jordan Health Center; the staff on the 4th & 6th floors at
Strong Memorial Hospital. And to all who said a special word of
prayer for our Mom. We humbly thank you all.
