Obituary of Rosalie Washington
Please share a memory of Rosalie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Rosalie Washington was born March 18, 1920 to the late John Edwards and Estelle Lewis in Tifton, GA. She lost her mother at a young age and was ultimately raised by her maternal grandmother. She moved to Sandford, Florida as a young adult where she met Mr. Monica Brooks. She would later marry Mr. Brooks and to that union would come George Brooks and Flora Robin Brooks. After the passing of Mr. Brooks in the 1940's, Rosalie and her children moved to Western, New York.
Rosalie would meet Mr. Bennie Washington in Buffalo, New York and marry on September 22, 1956. To that union would come William Lee Washington in 1959. After giving birth to William and moving a few different places in Western, New York, Rosalie would settle and live the remainder of her life in Rochester, New York.
She worked for many years in Housekeeping at Highland Hospital before transitioning her employment to the Rochester City School District where she worked in Operations. She would retire from the Rochester City School District in the early 1980's.
During her retirement, Rosalie enjoyed watching soap operas (stories), her favorite being The Young and the Restless, cooking for her family and people watching. You could often find her in Midtown Plaza shopping and hanging out. Rosalie cared about her appearance and always made sure she looked nice. She completed all outfits with her favorite lipstick and sweet smelling perfume.
She will be remembered for a lot of things, especially for speaking her mind. She did not hold back. She is predeceased by her son, George Brooks and daughter Flora Robin Brooks. She leaves to cherish her memory her son, William Lee (Carolyn) Washington, Sr., 4 grandchildren, Johnny Frank Hardaway, William ( Shawntia) Washington, Jr., Cory (Davonya) Washington, Sr., and Sharee (Gerry) Gunner, 12 great grand children and 8 great-great grandchildren as well as extended family and friends
