Obituary of Barbara Wayne
Please share a memory of Barbara to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Barbara Ann (Golden) Wayne of Rochester, New York, a
devoted wife, mother, grandmother and aunt, transitioned
to her new life with Christ on May 20, 2020.
Barbara was born in Rochester on March 6, 1933 to the late Leroy and Marie
Golden. She was educated in the Rochester Public School System and
furthered her education at Manpower Nursing School where she earned her
license as a Practical Nurse.
Barbara had a strong commitment to God and was active in several
churches over her lifetime. At an early age, she gave her life to Christ and
was baptized at the Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in Rochester. She later joined
the Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church prior to uniting with Mt. Vernon
Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Harmon E.
Stockdale.
In her professional career, Barbara worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse
at various healthcare facilities including the Rochester Psychiatric Center.
She later became employed with the New York State Finger Lakes
Developmental Disabilities Service Organization (DDSO) for 16 years until
her retirement in 1995.
Barbara and the love of her life, her late husband Charles Wayne Jr.,
were united in holy matrimony on December 12, 1949 at her family’s home
on Clarissa Street in Rochester. God blessed their union with five children.
Barbara’s pride and joy was caring for her family and sharing her wisdom
and love. Her love extended beyond her biological children to her niece
Paula Golden who she cared for until her untimely death.
Barbara enjoyed listening to Gospel music, traveling, going to the casino
and family outings. She always spoke her mind and was a woman of much
wisdom. She shared her life experiences and was known to give an
encouraging word to everyone she encountered. She was indeed a fun-loving and
caring person who could always make you laugh and brighten up your day.
After a full and blessed life, at 87 years old, Barbara Ann Wayne stepped
from her earthly life into eternal life with the Lord Jesus Christ. The love and
joy that she brought to the lives of so many will be remembered and
cherished by the loved ones she leaves behind: her five children: Latrice
McKnight, Cheryl Wayne and Kim Wayne of Rochester, NY, Charles III
