Obituary of John Anthony Jackson

John Anthony Jackson (affectionately known as John-John, Orange, Uncle Barkley, and L.J.) was born on January 15, 1968 in Buffalo, New York to Dorothy (Strasner) and Ernest E. Jackson. John was educated in the Rochester City School District in Rochester, New York and graduated in 1987. Upon graduation, he served our country in the United States military for over 15 years. John served in both the United States Navy and the United States Army, as a Culinary Specialist and Food Service Specialist, respectively. As a dual-service veteran, he deployed at sea in support of Operation Desert Storm with the Navy and Operation Iraqi Freedom while in the Army with the 340th Quartermaster Company, 1st Sustainment Command. He was an excellent cook and worked as a civilian contractor in Afghanistan as a Food Service Officer and later a First Cook in Missouri. John served his community as a correctional and transportation officer in Pulaski County, Missouri. His compassion for people compelled him also to work in Human Services as a Direct Support Specialist for The Children’s Home of Jefferson County where he provided counsel and support to at-risk youth. John continued his education receiving a degree in Information Technology. John loved his family, especially his two daughters. He enjoyed life to the fullest and extended love and kindness to everyone that he met. He could always be counted on to help anyone in need. John loved animals, wrestling, and he was an avid fan of the Texas “Hook’em Horns” Longhorns. John is survived by his loving mother, Dorothy (Charles) Smith; his adoring daughters, Jordan T. Jackson of Floresville, Texas and Taylor A. Jackson of Rochester, New York; two sisters: Rachael (Kevin) Burroughs of Rochester, NY and Donna (Eric) Cooper of Waynesville, MO; a brother, Calvin (Tochera) Anderson of Watertown, NY; an aunt, Norma (James) Burks of Jackson, MS; five nieces: Marquita (Darryl) Rugless of Rochester, NY, Daj’Rion A. Anderson of Lakeland, FL, Ashney Randle, St. Louis, MO, Adria Randle of Avondale, AZ, and Cynaa Burden of Waynesville, MO; two nephews, Justin M. Anderson of Greece, NY, and Chase Kohl of South Carolina; and a host of great nieces, extended family members, and friends.
