Obituary of Lorraine Wilcox

Please share a memory of Lorraine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lorraine Renee Reed (Wilcox), 52, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 of natural causes. She was born on September 1, 1967 to Mary Lee Reed and Wayne Justice in Rochester, NY. Lorraine was a graduate of Franklin High School and went on to receive an Associates degree in Business Management from McCarthy’s Business Institute. Over the past few years Lorraine found a new passion in Healthcare, working with the geriatric population at Elder One. Lorraine was also a woman of many trades, she recently purchased a duplex, completed restoration and rented the apartments. Her goal was to acquire many more duplexes and single homes and start her own family business. Lorraine loved her family immensely and never missed one party for a loved one. Her hobbies included card games with friends and family, movie nights, and shopping- which she loved most of all! Lorraine never hesitated to tell her children her love language was gifts and acts of service! Lorraine is survived by both her Mother and Father; five children: Sharese, John, Jaquan, Javonte, and Diamond; three grandchildren: Aaliyah, Lenon and Alaylah; two brothers: Johnny and Walter; two sisters: Shanetta and Maria; two half-brothers: Dominic and Donald; a half-sister, Penny; her significant other, Louis Greggs as well as a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. Lorraine will be dearly missed every minute of every hour, every single day. The abundant life is not measured by wealth of a person but by the impact that person makes in bettering the lives of others. And so today, we pause to pay homage and say thank you to Mrs. Eva Washington Campbell – a strong independent Christian woman who made an indelible mark on the lives of all who met and knew her. Eva was the second of five children born to the late Isaac and Ella Washington in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. on March 9, 1925. At age nine, Eva confessed faith in Jesus Christ and with her family, joined St. John Reformed Episcopal Church and remained a member until her heavenly transition, having served St. John for 85 years! Among her most passionate duty at St. John was being a member of the Usher Board. She served faithfully as the financial secretary of the Usher Board for 54 years under the leadership of her aunt, the late Carrie Rouse. In addition to her local usher responsibility, she served in the region as a member of the Interdenominational Ushers Council #1. She was on numerous occasion a delegate to her denominational conventions of the Reformed Episcopal Church. She loved her church and served faithfully on Class #6. Eva was also an ardent and passionate member of the Senior Citizens group of Mother Emmanuel A.M.E. Church, the Golden Girls, and her favorite past time with her pakeno women group. Eva received her education in the Charleston Public School system, but it was not until June 1, 1972 where she was awarded her high school diploma from Charles A. Brown High School Adult program. On September 21, 1954, Eva joined in holy matrimony to the late Thomas Campbell of Waterboro, SC. Eva and Tom were blessed to raised Edward Nathaniel Washington who departed this life June 1996. In addition to raising her son, she also raised her oldest nephew Frank Washington, Jr. who also preceded her in death in 2002. Eva was a dedicated and loving wife and supportive mother. She did anything for “Big Tom” and Edward before they were called home. A quintessential homemaker and health care provider to her family, Eva managed to take care of every senior member of her family at the family home as their health became the issue, her beloved nephew and niece-in-law, Dr. Marlowe V.N. and Mira J. Washington of Rochester, New York flew to Charleston to receive their aunt and cared for her the same way she did for senior members of the family without hesitation. She was lovingly cared for at home until two years ago when her health required additional assistance. Eva Loved Charleston, South Carolina and made sure she told everybody in Rochester that there was no other home than Charleston, South Carolina and was proud of it! She has now returned to her beloved Charleston following her transition entrusted to God’s eternal care at the Friendly Home in Rochester, NY on February 15, 2020. Mrs. Campbell leaves to cherish her memory her two devoted nephews, the Rev. Dr. Marlowe V.N. Washington, and Feron A. Washington of US Territory of Guam, her niece, Michele L. Washington of Bronx, NY; three nieces-in-law, Mira J. Washington (her caretaker), Masami Washington, and Betty Jean Washington of Charleston, SC; 8 grand-nieces: Brittney, Natasha, Javona, Asia, Faith, Janae, Kacey, Kristin; 2 grand-nephews: Marlowe ll and Justin. 4 great nieces, 2 great nephews. Daughter-in-law, Henrietta Washington of Charleston, SC, and many devoted cousins and close friends. A special thank you to Irving Jenkins & Pearl Jenkins her first cousins who provided exceptional care prior to her relocation to Rochester, NY. Aunt Eva admired and cherished Mary Lee Rhodes, close friend and family member. The late Alice Sparkman took delight in caring for Aunt Eva for many years while living in Charleston, SC. Alice traveled from SC with her family to visit Aunt Eva in New York.
