Obituary of Linda Beatrice Crosdale
Mrs. Linda Beatrice Crosdale was born March 10, 1923 to the late Anthony and Emily Palmer in Maidstone, Manchester, Jamaica, West Indies.
She was the eldest of nine children, four brothers and four sisters. Linda spent her early years in Manchester, and graduated from Topsham primary school. Linda relocated to Kingston, Jamaica where she proceeded on to her passion as a seamstress. She married Alexander W. Crossdale, and to this union of sixty-seven years, had nine chidren.
In order to improve her life and family Linda immigrated to Rochester, NY in 1970 where she continued working hard to get her family to the United States. She sponsored her husband and children who gradually joined her over the years.
She began her spiritual walk with God at an early age. She joined Trinity Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, Rochester, NY and after moving to Georgia she attended Conyers Church of God, Conyers GA, and while at Benton House of Covington, Caanan Baptist Church, Covington, GA, where she continued until her death. She was a spiritual warrior and trusted God to get her through all of her trials in life.
Linda moved to Atlanta, GA in 2008 to be closer with her family. In 2017 her health started to decline and at this point she moved into the Assisted Living Home, Benton House of Covington, GA here she lived until her death.
Linda treasured her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her community work included her membership at the Montgomery Senior Center (Rochester, NY) and Newton County Senior Services in (Covington, GA). Linda always cared for everyone she come in contact with. As a matter of fact she wanted to be a nurse and received a scholarship to attend nursing school however, her dad needed her on the farm to help out. As the eldest child she became the caretaker of her siblings and as a result from that she spent her life caring for others. Linda is known for her strong work ethic and consistently worked three jobs for several years which includes working as a Custodian for Monroe County, and owning her taxi cab (license #104) she retired after 15 years.
Her hobbies included gardening, traveling, singing, sewing, crocheting, knitting and serving the Lord, and her wonderful cooking.
Predeceased by her husband, Alexander W. Crossdale and her grandson Fitzroy B. Vines Jr. She departed this life October 20, 2019 leaving to cherish her memory: 2 sons, Tony Crossdale of Rochester. NY and Conley Crossdale of Covington, GA, seven daughters, Cynthia (Wessel) Henry, Conyers, GA, Sonia (Sherman) Scott, Covington, GA, Joan (John) Joyner, Lexington, SC, Eileen (Leroy) Gilchrist, Hilton Head, SC, Marva Reagan, Snellville, GA, Patricia (Jesse) Middlebrook, Covington, GA and Merna (Michael) Cronin, Seminole Orlando, FL. 25 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 1 brother, Alvin Palmer, of Rochester, NY, 2 sisters, Violet Legister, of Mandeville, Jamaica WI and Charmaine (Palmer) England UK . Several Neices, Nephews and Cousins.
