Lula "Mae" Wilson was born on August 22, 1922 the second of ten children born to Carrie and Whittmore Cunningham in Kingstree, SC. She attended Battery Park School. She joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Rev. Haddock Wilson Sr. on July 27, 1940. They had ten wonderful children. Lula spent her entire life in church and was a founding member of Kennedyville United Methodist Church. She often fought for civil rights and injustice. She was known as "Ms. Mae" and was a pillar of the community. She was a loving caring person with a heart of gold and would help anyone. She had a zest for life and sense of humor that was second to none. She was always fun to be around. Lula enjoyed gardening, knitting, sewing and learning new things. She was a faithful wife, a strong and protective mother, sister and grandmother. Lula was often found tending her garden or sitting on her porch waving to her friends and neighbors. Respected, loved, faithful, caring and dedicated would be terms used to express her life best. She was beautiful on the inside and the outside. Predeceased by her husband of 41 years, Rev. Haddock Wilson Sr. Cherished memories are left to her sons, Durant (Verlie), Haddick II (Mary Ann), William (Barbara), Joseph (Margaret), Perry (Jerry Mae), Willmore, Willard (Annette), and Tony Clyde (Arlene) Wilson; daughters, Nell (Acie) Moyd and Hattie Mae (Lee) Henderson; brothers, Whittmore, Otis ("Jessie"), and Fred Cunningham, all of Rochester; sisters Florence Cobbs of Reading, PA, Mellie Wilson of Queens, NY, Catherine (Purvis) Arline, Eunice (Willie) Reed, of New York, NY, Thelma (Sam) Beacoats and Ann Bryant, all of Rochester; 22 Grandchildren; 14 Great Grandchildren; and a host of other relatives.
